The Gull walleye are exactly where you would expect them in mid-May — pulled up shallow on the rock at dusk and into the dark. Fish from a half hour after sunset to about 11pm. The bite has been consistent the last three nights.
We are catching them in 4–8 feet on the rocky banks. Husky Jerk in perch or clown is the bait. Cast parallel to the shoreline and work it back at about 1 turn per second with a long pause every few cranks. Most fish come on the pause or the first crank after.
No need to head out deep. Eyes are still cleaning up baitfish in the shallows. We had limits of 16–22 inch fish two nights running. One 26-inch fish released — getting close to the time they push back out.
