Gun is in full spawn mode on the south end. Water hit 65°F on the sand flats Friday and a wave of fish moved up. The shallowest beds are protected behind the points — wind has been keeping the open flats stirred.
Look for the cleaned-out circles 2–5 ft off the bank. Polarized glasses are essential. Most males have been 14–17 inches with the occasional 4 lb female cycling on and off.
Approach is everything. Trolling motor on lowest setting, drop the bait past the bed, drag it in, let it sit. If she swims off, give it a minute before the next pitch. Forcing it does not work.
Next 7–10 days should hold. Once water hits 70°F most of the active beds will be empty and the bite shifts to post-spawn lily pads on the north end.
