The walleye below the dams have started cleaning up after the spawn. They are aggressive and they are looking for an easy meal in the current eddies. The window from now until water hits 65°F is the best of the year for this fishery.

Light jig, livebait or a 3" plastic, retrieved slow through the seam below the dam. Make a long cast, count it down, and let the current sweep it through the slack water. Most strikes come as the bait swings into the deeper edge.

Wading is good right now — water is high enough to push fish into casting range but not so high that the wade is dangerous. Stay below the marked safety zone and wear a belt and felt-sole boots.

Limits of 14–17 inch fish are common. A handful of 22-inch class fish each week. The bigger fish tend to come at first and last light.
