The Lake Michigan boat troll has finally cleaned up after the windy stretch. South of South Haven in 30–50 ft of water we have been finding solid coho and the occasional brown trout running near the surface.
Small spoons in bright colors are doing the work. Stinger Stingrays on inline planers cover the top 10 feet, dipsies handle 15–20 feet down. Two-color core works as a third presentation if you want to spread out.
Average fish 3–5 lbs coho, with a handful of 8–10 lb browns mixed in. The bigger kings have not shown up consistently yet — give them 2–3 more weeks. This is the time to load the freezer with coho and skin-on fillets.
