The St. Joe steelhead run is winding down but not done. A solid handful of drop-back fish are still in the river and they are aggressive. Most have already spawned and are feeding hard before heading back to the lake.

Focus on the deep runs and tailouts at Berrien Springs and below. The fish are sitting in 6–10 ft of water on the current seam. Bead under a float drifted through is producing best.

Water is clearing fast as flows drop. By the end of next week the fish will be mostly gone. Get in while you can — this is also when you have the best shot at a chrome bright dropback that ate something in the lake on the way back through.

A few residual males still in deeper holes. Most fish are 7–11 lbs.
